Sometimes the right places just find you.

Sarschin Govender admits he took a big leap of faith a few years ago when he moved from South Africa to Canada in search of new adventures. He had no idea at the time exactly where he would end up.

“Basically, I just packed two suitcases and headed to the great white north,” he says with his trademark smile.

The move paid off. He has since settled in nicely as a Project Engineer with Lauren Services. And when he’s not working, he enjoys all that life in Vancouver has to offer, including a great group of friends.

Sarschin also found a strong sense of connection and belonging with the Lauren team and how they approach both work and life.

“I did some research on the company and really liked their style and the way they do projects and that’s what drew me to join them,” he says. The work is challenging, rewarding, and always diverse. “It’s different industries, different environments, and you learn so much here in a short time.”

One of Sarschin’s professional passions is promoting responsible development in communities, including emphasis on stakeholder communications.

“When it comes to the public, I think you really have to try and break it down, so they understand what you’re doing in their environment, how it’s going to affect them,” he says.

He’s also “very excited about the environmental aspects” of his job, learning how various systems and processes “connect with each other.”

“We can have a mutualistic relationship with nature,” he says. “I want to see industries working in unison with nature to grow.”
