Leadership

ROD PHIPPS, P. ENG
Managing Partner

With more than 30 years of experience across the industry, Rod manages the ongoing operation of the partnership including budgeting, marketing and business development, staffing, project team selection and development; review of contracts, reports and cost estimates. Project management responsibilities include project/process configuration, design basis memorandums, cost estimating, existing facilities cost evaluation, regulatory approvals, detailed design, equipment specification and procurement, surplus equipment evaluation and re-use, construction management, cost control, commissioning and start-up. Since 2015, Rod has been a director of Gitpo LP, a partnership with a majority Indigenous-owned entity with a mission to expand the capacity and capability of Indigenous companies and contractors to increase the participation of First Nations and their people in the execution of projects on traditional territories.

DUSTIN EDGREN, P. ENG
Operations Manager | Project Manager

Dustin brings over 15 years of professional engineering experience across the oil and gas industry, primarily focused on pipeline and pipeline related facilities including leading a pipeline team through business development, client management, and project execution. He brings strong leadership and people skills to his diverse range of project contributions that span Engineering Management, Project Management, and Project Engineering.

Fletcher has more than 15 years of experience as a Project Manager and Pipeline Engineer in both gas and liquids pipelines and related facilities. His experience includes project management and project execution with all project stakeholders including Engineering, Lands, Environmental, Survey etc. on projects in both BC and Alberta.

DARREN JONES, P. ENG
Engineering Manager | Mechanical Lead

Darren is a Mechanical Engineer with over 25 years of experience in leading and coordinating the activities of the design and construction teams. He prepares, coordinates and reviews engineering analysis of projects to include preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection.  Darren also manages project challenges, budgets, and schedules, and reviews development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices.

STAN RACZKOWSKI, P. ENG
Process Engineering

Stan brings more than 44 years of oil and gas experience in the design, optimization, debottlenecking and troubleshooting of processing facilities worldwide (Canada, USA, Middle East, Gulf of Mexico, West Africa) from conceptual study (DBM) through to FEED / detailed engineering, commissioning and start-up. His supervision and management experience includes leading teams from 5 to 23 in the development of: PFDs, HMBs, P&IDs, Line Lists, DBMs, FEEDs, SOWs, equipment sizing and specification, computer simulation design modelling for deep cut cryogenic gas processing plants, fractionation facilities, oil batteries, CPFs, compressor and booster stations, refinery units and related petrochemical facilities. Gas/Gas Liquids projects: enhanced ethane recovery, NGL fractionation facilities, deep-cut cryogenic gas processing plants, straddle plants, salt cavern storage for ethylene, propane, and butane, compressor booster stations, gas conditioning and sweetening, sulphur recovery, sulphur degassing, dew point control, hydrate inhibition, condensate stabilization, condensate upgrading, sour gas and liquid hydrocarbon treatment including amine systems (gas and liquid/liquid contactors), Merox units, and caustic wash systems, commissioning and start-up assistance. GRAHAM PAVLIK, P. ENG, PMP
Project Engineering Lead / Project Manager

Graham has nine years of experience in the oil and gas industry working predominantly as Project Manager on projects related to pipelines, facilities, and refineries. His pipeline experience ranged from 2″ to 36” OD in BC, Alberta, and Ontario including design to CSAZ662, stress analysis, procurement, and TIC estimating. On-site experience includes two years acting as an owner’s rep/engineer at the Chevron Canada Burnaby refinery performing design and management of maintenance projects.

THEO LEUNG, P. ENG
Project Manager

Professional Engineer with a metallurgy background and over seven years of project management, engineering, construction management, and pipeline design experience in the Oil & Gas Industry. Projects experience in BC and Alberta include NPS 2 – NPS 36 transmission and gathering projects ranging from $300K up to $20MM TIC. Key pipeline experience include design to CSA Z662, materials selection to CSA Z245 series, TIC estimates, and construction and regulatory support.

JANNA GILLICK, P. ENG, PMP
Sr. Project Manager

Experienced professional engineer with over twenty (20) years of process engineering and project management experience. Janna is a team player with strong communication skills, and she has excellent organizational skills with a dynamic, result-oriented personality. She is excellent with HYSYS, VMGSim, CADSim, Excel, MS Project and other Microsoft software and experienced with HAZOP facilitator. She is fluent in English and French, spoken and written. Janna’s experience correlates to the industries in Liquefied Natural Gas, Pulp and Paper / Chemicals and Power Generation. Janna is an experienced HAZOP facilitator and Senior Process Engineer. Janna has experience facilitating HAZOP’s in over a dozen sites in BC as well as Saskatchewan, US, and Germany. Her HAZOP facilitation skills has been audited in person by a third-party representative on behalf of the TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein) to confirm her knowledge of and adherence to the BS EN 61882 standard.

Charbel brings 20 years of experience working in diverse organizations including Fortune 500 companies, privately held corporations, and small start-up firms in strategic planning, operations, finance, business development and engineering on large industrial defense, natural resources and utilities projects. He has exceptional in-depth knowledge and track record of detecting opportunities, directing and aligning teams and in delivering exceptional results across all areas of an organization. He has decreased overhead costs for multiple major energy clients by 10%, reducing project ROI by two years through the implementation of SAP, Automation and IT systems.

TOM PEARCE, P. ENG
Electrical Engineering

Tom is Manager of Lauren’s Electrical Engineering department and brings over 29 years of experience ensuring all project work is completed on time and in a technically sound manner. He supervises and coordinates work in the electrical department, prepares estimates and proposals for upcoming work. Tom works on all aspects of electrical design on various projects, working directly with other disciplines to gather information for project design.  He performs a variety of tasks such as the preparation of plans, designs, calculations, costs and bills of materials, catalogues, in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings and other specifications. He checks drawings and plans for technical completeness and reviews vendor information for technical information.

AUGUSTO CRUZ
Civil & Structural Design Lead

Augusto is an experienced Civil / Structural Design lead with over 20 years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the oil and gas sector. Augusto is a highly accomplished design/drafting professional with extensive experience manipulating innovative drawing and design software to develop complex and accurate 3D models. Adept at maintaining compliance with standard procedures and regulations while ensuring all client specifications are met. An excellent team leader, Augusto orchestrates design/drafting processes flawlessly with a focus on accurate on-time completion, with a track record of success designing, checking, and deploying accurate CAD drawings for civil/structural and piping projects as well as implementing changes as needed. He brings strong communication and trouble shooting skills to every project, collaborating with clients, project managers, designers, and engineers of multiple concurrent projects.

BOB PRASAD, ASCT.,RTMGR.
Sr. Director of Business Development

Bob is a Registered Engineering and Technology Management Professional with 34 years of demonstrated history in the commercial industrial, pulp and paper, pipeline operations and oil and gas’s upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. He graduated from Kwantlen University and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Civil & Electrical Engineering Technology & Construction Management Technology.

Over the last 15 years working in business development, Bob has successfully delivered multi-million-dollar projects and developed and maintained outstanding client relationships. Bob’s leadership and experience in EPCM and EPC delivery lead to his involvement in major projects with Shell, Chevron, Enbridge, Pembina, Kinder Morgan’s (TMEP), K+S Potash Canada, Pacific Coast Terminals, Neptune Terminals, Husky Refinery and Syncrude. Today, Bob is the Sr. Director of Business Development for the Vancouver and Calgary offices.

Manager of Business Development

Being a Calgary native, Joel is a highly skilled Business Development Manager.  Working in the oil and gas sector for the past 25 years, Joel is well known in the industry and focuses to maintain strong professional relationships with key decision makers and influencers of existing clientele, as well as acquiring and building new rapport.   Joel has represented Lauren since 2005 and is dedicated to managing relationships with key clients with a focus on developing long term business relationships.

HEATHER WERNER
Document Control

Document controller with over eight (8) years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Heather’s responsibilities include quality checking, status reporting, issuing engineering documentation, supporting the project teams, and structuring. She has experience in reviewing, developing, and adjusting procedures and has implemented and followed with accuracy by the contractors. Heather’s experience has made her an asset to our team not only from her experience but from her due diligence and professional timely manner on tasks.

ANNETTE BLOCK
Regulatory, Environmental, Archaeological & Lands

Annette brings 20 years of experience in successfully leading all aspects of land and regulatory compliance for projects in the oil and gas sector. Her experience in managing and coaching have made her an asset to our team and our clients as she manages budgets, creates schedules and project timelines. Annette’s previous roles include managing environmental activities for projects, providing guidance on project scope, goals and deliverables. She works diligently to improve project effectiveness and maintain regulatory compliance for projects, while ensuring timelines and budgets are met.

MANUEL SECHER, P. ENG
Project Controls

Manuel grew up in France and moved to Canada after obtaining a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. With over 12 years of experience in Project Control, Manuel has an extensive experience in estimating, scheduling, cost control, change management, risk analysis and work face planning. Manuel spent his first seven years as a Project Control in oil & gas construction projects in the Fort McMurray area. He then moved to Calgary with Lauren in 2013 where he has been working on EPC Projects.

STEVE BERGEN, P. ENG
Project Manager

Pipeline Engineer and Project Manager with over seven years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry, with a primary focus on pipeline and pipeline facilities regulated by the OGC, AER and NEB. Projects have typically included feasibility, FEED and/or detailed design of natural gas and multi-product liquids transmission pipelines up to NPS 20, upgrades to existing pipelines and barrel sites including line lowering and re-routes, and both new and replacement natural gas meter and gate station replacements. Projects for clients with smaller project teams have typically included management of lands, regulatory, archeological, and environmental sub-contractors, as well as providing procurement, construction management and commissioning and start-up support.

ROB TOMPKINS, A.SC.T.
Project Manager

Rob brings more than 35 years of experience as a Project Manager and Structural/Civil Department Manager. His engineering knowledge and expertise includes assignments throughout all phases of heavy industrial and materials handling projects beginning from pre-feasibility to construction completion. As a Project Manager, Rob’s responsibilities include engineering coordination with clients, developing and managing project budgets, negotiating contracts, monitoring costs and construction activities.

NESTOR ORTIZ, P. ENG
QA/QC

Nestor has been involved with Quality Management Systems since 1999. Early on he implemented the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard and successfully obtained and maintained the QMS third party certification for an Engineering Services Company until 2004. Later on he performed internal quality audits and helped develop documented procedures for a manufacturing company until 2012. With Lauren he assisted with the implementation of EGBC’s OQM Program, obtaining certification in 2020. He also has experience performing a variety of tasks including preparation of simple plans, designs, calculations, costs, and bills of material, in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings or other specifications, and assisting in the design of new or revised, equipment, installations, or processes, based on established engineering principles to meet functional requirements.

ALVIN KWAN, P. ENG, MBA
Project Manager

A result-oriented Project Manager with over twenty-six years of progressive experience in the Oil and Gas industry. Key areas of expertise include Maintenance Program Management, upstream development, pipeline expansion projects, pipeline replacement projects, and compression facilities projects.  A strong motivator and team player with effective leadership, communication, time management, decision making, problem solving, conflict management, and interpersonal skills together with strong ethics.

BRENT CYMBOL, P. ENG
Project Manager

Professional engineer in Alberta, British Columbia & Saskatchewan with more than 25 years’ experience in EPCM of oil & gas infrastructure (greenfield & brownfield), project management, maintenance and operations. Recently involved in engineering, development and regulatory on several Saskatchewan SAGD thermal projects and heavy oil treating / water handling. As Engineering Manager executed annual $150+million capital budget including project development & scoping, design, engineering, installation, construction, projects, maintenance, operations and integrity for an international energy company. Know internal processes at oil & gas producers and how they function to get work done. Responsible for developing multi-year plan(s) for all facilities including planning, estimating & scheduling. Managed resources to successfully execute multiple projects simultaneously. Considerable experience with 3rd party service providers including vendors and fabricators. Familiar with numerous design standards including ASME, API, CSA, TEMA, etc. Worked for EPCM on Suncor & Shell facilities and was mechanical engineer responsible for the package boilers / fired heaters and application of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and other packaged equipment. Focused on safety, quality, cost and environmental issues on all work. Spent considerable time in the field working with operations, maintenance & contractors.

HAYLEY BALL, P. ENG
Project Manager

Experienced professional engineer with over 10 years’ experience working on projects. Her personable nature combined with demonstrated technical expertise establishes her as a strong project engineer. Her skills include strong relational leadership, managing multi-discipline teams to deliver quality projects.  Ability to organize complex deliverables with a high degree of accuracy. Establish client relationships, communicating clearly and effectively with external stakeholders.  Maintain budgets and schedules for concurrent projects, providing weekly updates. Material Control and coordination, tracking, and reporting of all procurement activities from initial scope to construction.  Prepare and Issue Construction Work Packages, providing field support including responding and tracking requests for information with a 48hr turnaround requirement.  Regulatory support, including the preparation of audit packages. Procurement Support, including material requisitions, bill of materials, technical bid evaluations and vendor drawing reviews. Change Management coordination, maintaining action item logs, trends, and change orders.

CHRISTINA CLARK
Drafting & Design

Christina is a Senior piping/pipeline designer and Design Lead, with over 15 years’ experience on a variety of Capital Maintenance, Expansion, and Greenfield Projects. She is an experienced 3D designer, who has generated designs for both FEED and Detailed Design projects while leading a multidisciplinary team. Her experience lies in the design of Power Generation, Deep Cut Gas, SAGD, and Water Treatment Facilities, along with Booster and Compressor Stations and Pipeline Valve and Barrel Sites. She has developed and checked a range of piping and pipeline deliverables, created client drawing standards, developed document control procedures, and managed client as-building programs. She is adept at a variety of software: CADworx, CADworx Spec Generator, MicroStation, Autoplant, PDS and Smartplant.  Her career has taken her from Calgary to London, to Italy and Vancouver, she is very adaptable and personable and enjoys fostering a healthy work environment that focuses on mentorship and high quality work.

TERRY BRAR, P. ENG
Pipeline

Terry is a Professional Engineer with 10 years of project management, engineering and design experience in the oil and gas sector. His pipeline and station experience includes upstream, midstream and downstream pipelines and stations in both British Columbia and Alberta, and includes large diameter pipelines and piping as well as cross country pipeline design. He is highly experienced in the management of subcontractors, including; Survey, Lands, Regulatory, Environmental, Cathodic Protection, Geotechnical, Spill Volume, HDD Design and Hydrotechnical Design. Expertise and application of CSA Z662 pipeline and CSA Z662 and ASME B31.3 station design. Expertise and application of material selection for CSA Z245 series as well as API, ASME, ASTM. Expertise and application of pipeline and facility permits for BC OGC, Alberta AER, Federal CER.

MIKE NUTKINS
Procurement

Mike has over 18 years of experience in Supply Chain Management, working in Fabrication, EPCM as well as the Owner / Client environments. Spending most of his career focused on equipment and materials purchasing for EPCM companies, he has experience working on Crude treatment facilities, Gas processing facilities, Desalting facilities, Bulk acid gas removal facilities, Oil separation & Processing facilities, Pipelines, as well as Renewable Resources facilities. He has worked on domestic and international projects with a total value of more than $1.2BN.

HAROLD WALDRON
Instrumentation

Instrumentation Engineering Lead with over forty (40) years of extensive experience as a specialist in instrumentation and control systems including design, engineering, and construction as well as project coordination and scheduling. With a career beginning in the nuclear industry at Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories and chasing a dream which included the completion and startup of the Syncrude Oil Sands Project, startup, and analyzer specialist at the Dow Ft. Saskatchewan Vinyl Chloride Monomer plant, to site maintenance engineering at the Novacor Polyethylene facility near Red Deer, then to Calgary where Colt and Jacobs Engineering provided involvement in a new Dow Polyethylene project and the Suncor Firebag In-Situ Oil Sands facilities near Fort McMurray. Finally, a move to Lauren Services, provided experience in Natural Gas Processing, Compression and Pipelines. Harold also has extensive knowledge in the following instruments: control valves, transmitters, sensors, analyzers, detectors, samplers, PLCs, SCADA, and Flow Metering.

MIKE MCGILVERY
Drafting & Design

Mike brings over 25 years of extensive design experience, construction support and materials management for various types of projects ranging from: well sites, oil batteries, SAGD plants, rail terminals, pump stations, pipelines, water treatment plants, carbon capture facilities, compressor stations and large gas processing plants. He has a reputation for being a solid influence as a seasoned oil and gas industry professional with an innovative approach who strategically collaborates with all key personnel, clients, contractors and stakeholders. He is always looking for continual design improvement for the end users’ operations group and has proven success with construction-driven designs and schedule compression. Mike excels at managing multidisciplinary drafting departments with an eye toward excellence and quality and is responsible for the overall planning, supervision and direction of the mechanical, electrical and CSA drafting departments.
